During your visit to the weaving center, you will discuss how weaving connects with Andean culture and see a demonstration of the entire process: spinning raw alpaca or sheep fiber into yarn on the Andean drop spindle, or phuska, dying fibers with natural plant dyes, tools and techniques used to weave the yarn into cloth, and finally a completed textile. It is fascinating to see the process all come to life in its original environment.
While y immerse ourselves in Andean weaving and culture, a handful of weavers from the cooperative you will prepare a Pachamanca lunch, or lunch cooked in a traditional earth oven. You can step out intermitantly to view each step of the process. Once the food is ready you will sit down and eat together with the weavers and often times their family members.
