4. WEATHER
The seasons of the year (Southern Hemisphere):
The presence of the Andes mountain range and its rugged geography make Peru a country with significant diversity.
Coast
From Tacna to Piura, enjoy a warm, humid, and misty winter, while summers offer clear skies and 30°C (86°F) temperatures. Moving from Piura to Tumbes, experience a very dry climate with some rains between December and April and an average temperature of 24°C (75°F).
Highlands
The highlands have two Seasons : Summer (May – October) offers sunny days up to 20°C (68°F) and chilly nights (as low as -3°C or 26.6°F) with minimal rain. Winter (November – April) brings heavy rain with daytime highs up to 24°C (75°F) and nights around 3°C (37°F). Plan your visit accordingly to enjoy Peru’s climate diversity.
The Jungle
Much like the highlands, the jungle region also observes two well-defined seasons. In the summer, spanning from May to October, you can expect minimal rainfall and soaring temperatures that may surpass 30°C (86°F). However, during the winter, which occurs between November and April, the area sees abundant rainfall, and between May and August, the possibility of ‘friajes’ arises, causing temperatures to plummet to as low as 12°C (53°F). Plan your visit accordingly to experience the diverse climates of the jungle in Peru.
